Part-Time Childcare Assistant

We are a community-based behavioral health agency providing evidence-based mental and behavioral health therapies for children and youth and their parents/caregivers, including some currently in foster care. All childcare is scheduled and provided only when the parent or caregiver is also onsite during PTC School sessions.

About the Position:

This is a part time/hourly position (5-10 hours per week, with potential for additional hours depending on number of parent groups running. The majority of hours worked are between 5pm-8pm on weeknights)

  • Base compensation: $19.30 per hour (may be higher depending on pay equity differentials)
  • 6-month review: performance-based increase up to 3%

We are hiring part-time Childcare Providers to support the PTC Schools program, which offers caregiver training sessions at school sites in Eugene and in surrounding rural areas. In this role, staff will work as a team to supervise and engage groups of up to 12 children in playful, structured care while their caregivers attend nearby sessions. This role involves travel to different school sites, including rural locations, with carpooling arranged as needed.

This position emphasizes creating a welcoming and safe environment, using developmentally appropriate and trauma-informed practices. Responsibilities include active supervision, building warm relationships with children and caregivers, maintaining accurate attendance and waiver records, and cleaning and organizing the childcare space. Candidates must have prior childcare experience, be reliable and punctual, and complete the required training, including CPR and First Aid, within their first week of employment.

Job Duties:
  • Create a welcoming and fun childcare setting. Creative and energetic with a positive, open-minded attitude.
  • Actively supervise children and provide redirection, distraction, and encouragement as needed
  • Demonstrate understanding of developmentally appropriate behavior for children.
  • Sets up and cleans up childcare space after each session. Cleans toys as needed with spray cleaner.
  • Establish a positive relationship with the children that combines warmth and humor with effective skills.
  • Develop a trusting relationship with caregivers to ensure a positive experience and open communication.
  • Able to remain calm in potentially stressful circumstances, while following OCP’s trauma-informed practices and policies.
  • Maintains daily childcare log, guardian waivers, and incident reports when needed.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Prior childcare experience
  • Have or obtain first and CPR certification as part of the mandatory training in the first week of employment (paid by OCP)
  • Comfortable accepting feedback and supervision by seeking support as needed
  • Provide positive, professional references
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Dependable, reliable, and punctual
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
  • Childcare sessions take place at the schools where parent-training sessions are being held. Multiple staff will be available at all times and parents are on-site during childcare sessions.
  • Ability to lift 25lbs.
  • This position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and stoop as part of regular duties

  • Receive 1 hour of protected sick time for every 30 hours you work, up to 40 hours of sick time per year. You can start taking sick time after you’ve worked for your employer for 90 days (about 3 months).
