Attendees will learn foundational components of clinical supervision and how to consider ethics and multicultural influences on the supervisory relationship. Topics include therapist-client-supervisor relationships, common challenges and strategies for addressing them, supervision ethics, and contextual issues. By using of supervision scenarios, attendees will explore how to attune supervision to the level of clinician development. Through the use of lecture, experiential activities and discussion, attendees will increase their awareness and competency for dealing with contextual issues that often permeate the supervision relationship.

Attendees will learn foundational components of clinical supervision and how to consider ethics and multicultural influences on the supervisory relationship. Topics include therapist-client-supervisor relationships, common challenges and strategies for addressing them, supervision ethics, and contextual issues. By using of supervision scenarios, attendees will explore how to attune supervision to the level of clinician development. Through the use of lecture, experiential activities and discussion, attendees will increase their awareness and competency for dealing with contextual issues that often permeate the supervision relationship. In addition, attendees will learn how to navigate the ever-evolving supervisor-therapist-client relationships. The majority of the training will focus on how to consider the intersection of culture and ethics in the supervisory relationship.

Course Objectives:

The course will prepare attendees to:

  • Increase awareness and competency for dealing with to contextual variables that permeate the supervisory context;
  • Consider and address the ethical and legal issues associated with supervision;
  • Facilitate the co-evolving therapist-client and supervisor-therapist-client relationships;
  • Demonstrate executive skills used in structuring supervision, problem-solving, and in implementing supervisory interventions while considering the multicultural context of the supervisor and clinician;
  • Address distinctive issues that arise in clinical supervision versus administrative supervision;
  • Evaluate and identify problems in therapist-client and supervisor-therapist-client relationships.

 

6 CEU hours total: 3 hours of Supervision, 3 hours of Ethics
